Cave Story+ (PC)

February 14, 2013

Cave Story+ an indie game by Daisuke “Pixel” Amaya of Studio Pixel it is a fun and engaging exploration platformer.  The player plays as a silent robot soldier with the ability to use multi weapons and also an excellent jumper.  Cave Story+ brings back the old feel of 8-bit platformers for the  NES.  The game starts out (big surprise) in a cave with no memory of who what when or where you are.   As the game progress you find out that the island is inhabited by a race of humanoid rabbits named Mimigas.  The  Story revolves around you trying to save the day from an evil doctor’s plans to take over the world with the help of a demonic powered headgear and red flowers that have some very bad effect on the local Mimigas.  Controls are very tight and responsive.  The only way to upgrade yourself is by weapon upgrades, equipment, health capsules, and weapon ammo upgrades.  The weapon you find are a pea shooter, machine gun, rocket launcher and fire ball launcher.  Each weapon has three levels, but with each hit you take the experience you gain with that weapon is reduced to the point of even losing a whole level.  Cave Story+ is a fun 8-bit indie game with a interesting story.  Completion time is about 6-7 hours with more trying to find all the health, weapon ammo upgrades as well hidden secrets.  Cave Story+ is on steam for only ten dollars to get that old 8-bit platformer nostalgia from the NES era of gaming.
