Sword of the Stars: The Pit with Mind Games DLC

September 12, 2013

Sword of the Stars: The Pit was released on March 8, 2013 on Steam being           self published by Kerberos Productions With the DLC Mind Games released on July 3.

The story starts out with a terrible plague that has transformed the humans in ghouls. There are rumors that at the bottom of a Pit there is ancient alien technology with the power to develop a cure.

Sword of the Stars The Pit is a roguelike, exploration, floor clearing game with rpg elements.  There are three playable classes available in the base game “The Pit”: The Marine, The Engineer, and The Scout.  Each class starts out with different items and load outs that fit that class.   The main stats are Might, Finesse, Brains, and Power which are used to modify skills.  Skills are Engineering, Electronics, Computer, Mechanical, Medical, Traps, Pistol, BioTech, Decipher, Knife, Lockpick and Foraging.  Each class starts with some stats and skills higher than others.  The DLC Mind Games added more levels to explore, Psionic Powers along with two new playable classes The Psion and The Tarka Ranger.

The game has a kind of fog of war gameplay where you do not know what is around the next corner.  The game goes in and out of a kind of turn based combat system that slow your movement when there are enemies nearby.  Every action you do take up a set amount of turns.  Weapons can be enhanced and repaired with items found in the many different containers.  As you descend down the different levels of The Pit enemies get tougher and tougher.

If you like Rougelike games pick this game up on Steam for only $9.99 on Steam and if you want more of The Pit the DLC Mind Games is also on Steam for $4.99.
