How It Stacks #14: Talespin

They were challenged and they replied..

                            Challenged accepted, mother gushers!!!

This is a hysterical episode! When faced with the challenge of language restrictions the guys rose to the occasion on this one. JD comes to the realization he'll never be able to say Kit Cloud Kicker right. Willis delivers some awesome facts on the show and keeps things rolling with his mother gushing awesomeness. Bulldog puts things in perspective with his recent trip to an air force museum for research for the show. They talk about Jungle Book, Grand Theft Auto, and JD has a massive brain fart while talking about his debut in acting. While Willis tells us how he really feels about bars with hotels, his dislike of cartoon kids, and his thoughts on bears VS ducks.

Its another... possibly ridiculous...

Darrell's Comic Cave :: Clown Fatale #1: Review

Publisher: Dark Horse Comics

*Released: *13th November 2013

“Sexy female clowns are mistaken for contract killers and abandon their shabby traveling circus for a world of violence and cruelty—with clown makeup.”

Sometimes the publisher’s description is the best place to start and in this case they’ve done a pretty decent job of summing up Victor Gischler’s Clown Fatale; a grindhouse movie-style comic that wears its influences proudly. This issue starts with a group of sexy clowns… [image: 2.jpg]

OK I don’t know WHY they’re clowns. They could have been strippers, though I guess that would have been a little too on the (red honking) nose. I guess given the genre they have to have some sort of hook and this probably seemed as good an excuse as any to have them unhappy and undressed. As long as you can keep Stephen King's Pennywise out of your mind, you'll be fine.

This issue starts with a group of sexy clowns not having a particularly good day working in the circus. There’s a little exposition in the form of narrative introductions to the main characters but for the most part this story starts off in high gear and doesn’t really let up; the entire first issue is designed to set them up as assassins and very little more. Fortunately the writing is enjoyable to read and any bad dialogue feels like an added touch of Exploitation movie authenticity rather than a lack of quality. This faithful adherence to genre tropes extends to the characters too as there doesn’t seem to be a single likeable person in this world. It’s something that’s par for the course for the style they’re going for but it says something when the main characters are so immoral that their first target has to attempt rape before the book can justify killing him. It does make me wonder how things will play out in future issues. [image: 3.jpg]

The artwork, like the writing, matches the tone they’re going for perfectly. It’s not as clean or finished as some of the larger titles but it’s not supposed to be. Each of the main characters seems to be designed to tick off some fetish or other and I’m sure anyone reading it will find they have a favourite in the group. No I’m not telling you who mine is. There’s also a fair bit of nudity here and if it feels gratuitous then, frankly, it’s supposed to. Maybe that’s where the beauty of the clown theme can be found; clowns are funny or scary but they should never be scary, and in putting them in stripper outfits (or less) it’s the reader’s own comfort that’s being exploited?

If there's a take-home sentiment of this review, then it's this; Clown Fatale is a perfect example of what it sets out to be, it just never attempts to be anything more.

And I’m alright with that. Clown Fatal is a fun read that delivers on every promise and I'm sure Quentin Tarantino is already bidding on the movie rights. In his honour I give this four naked Uma Therman's feet out of five.

Slater's Clubhouse - The Geek I/O Network::Star Wars #11 "Rebels vs Galactic Empire" - Dark Horse Comics Review

"Watch your twelve Luke!"

*Han Solo, Chewbacca, and garbage-barge pilot Perla have narrowly escaped Boba-Fett on Coruscant by making a risky hyperspace jump to undetermined coordinates, while Princess Leia's sojourn in the debris field that was once Alderaan has left her disillusioned and thoughtful as she returns to the rebel fleet. Rebel pilot Prithi arrived back at the Rebel fleet in bad shape - but in time to warn Mon Mothma of the incoming Star Destroyer Devastator. Aboard the Devastator, former prisoners Luke Skywalker and Wedge Antilles commandeered two TIE Interceptors and joined Colonel Bircher's wave of Imperial fighters launched to assault the Rebels. And Darth Vader now, now understanding exactly who Luke Skyalker is, has commanded his personal spy, Birra Seah, to detain Luke, no matter what . . . *

I personally haven't read the previous 10 comics of this on-going comic series, but I can tell you already that #11 has me really interested. The artwork by Carlos D'anda is really superb. Each panel showing attack wave after attack wave of constant non-stop action. It had me feeling like I was actually in the comic itself witnessing all this as a movie in front of my eyes. Not a lot of comics can suck me in like that, but this just takes the cake. Sure, a little more fine detail could be inserted here and there for the Star Wars purists and super-nerds (I'm sure I'll get some hate mail for saying that), but we get the over-all tone and point for what the pictures are trying to convey.

Now to the negative, and as a reminder to you all, this is my own personal opinion and your opinion may differ from my own, and I respect that. Brian Wood did the scripting on this comic, and he's doing a fairly well done job. The only problem I have about this particular comic (#11), is when it comes to the space battles and knowing who's who when it comes to dialogue. I had to literally jump back in my reading to figure out who this woman was because people are talking about Leia so much. Is she the pilot? Nope. It's Organa. [image: Oh that's who it is. And yes that bottom panel is first before the top ones.]

Oh that's who it is. And yes that bottom panel is first before the top ones.

Mr. Brian Wood could have made it a little more distinct as to who the people are that are talking, but it could just be me, so I can't completely fault him for that, I just felt some of the dialogue was a little hard to follow. Maybe I needed more coffee in the morning before I began reading. Out of a 1-10 scale rating, I give Star Wars #11: Rebels vs Galactic Empire, an 8 out of 10. I would have liked to see more where this was going but it does state "to be continued", of course.

Sekani: BGM #81: Ragnarok Online

Although I’m disappointed that I couldn’t think of a witty title for this episode, the music will not disappoint you at all. Lots of songs from SoundTeMP’s Ragnarok Online soundtrack are featured.
